WAYNE COE BIO


A  West Coast interdisciplinary artist.Wayne Coe’s entertainment industry career began with a BFA in Illustration and Film from Art Center College of Design.  He became one of the country's leading entertainment artists, designing posters for high-profile features such as OUT OF AFRICA, BACK TO THE FUTURE, FLETCH, DUNE and BRAZIL.  Coe Storyboarded main title sequences for SEVEN (NY Times Top 100 Design Accomplishments of the Century), DEADMAN ON CAMPUS(British Art Directors Award), MUMMY I & II, SPIDER-MAN I, II, III as well as special effects for STAR TREK, THE CORE, SPIDERWICK CHRONICALS and Best Picture, ARGO’s opening. Coe’s earned two EMMYNOMINATIONS: STORYMAKERS title illustrations & NURSE JACKIE title writer.


Mr. Coe has worked as writer, producer and director on a wide variety of educational, music video and commercial animation projects, as well distributed music videos. At age 28, he wrote and directed his feature-length project, GRIM PRAIRIE TALES, starring James Earl Jones and Brad Dourif, which garnered both critical and commercial success, moving over 40,000 units for video distributor Academy Entertainment and earning TV GUIDE’s video "Pick of the Week" and IFC’s “10 Top Horror Westerns.” 


Coe’s first solo show came the year he started painting, 2002 at Dirt Gallery. Mr. Coe won “Best Painting” in Peter Frank’s IN AMERICA NOW. He appeared in the Riverside Art Museum 2007, the Laguna Art museum & New Jersey Art Museum.  He has been featured in Artscene, Artillery, Adbusters and Juxtapoz magazines, & declared “brilliant” by artnet.com. His black sand drawings on Manhattan streets commenced a long performative career spanning LA, Florida, Oklahoma, NY, Basel & Paris and a feature film.


2020 Coe wrote/directed/produced a Michael Moore style exposé, WE HAVE YOUR KIDS rated 8/10 by Alan Ng.
